Website modernization that keeps your rankings.
Website modernization is a full rebuild of a dated site as a fast Next.js application, with the content, structure and rankings carried across intact. It is for mid-market companies whose WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or GoDaddy site is slow, hard to edit, and losing enquiries before anyone reads the copy.
What does website modernization actually involve?
Four things, in order. We take stock of what you have, rebuild it in Next.js on your brand, map the old URLs onto the new ones so nothing you have earned points at a 404, then wire up analytics and schema before the domain switches over.
We take stock first
Every page, form and URL is listed, and we mark which ones actually bring you traffic today.
- A full page and URL inventory
- Forms and integrations that must survive
- Content you keep, rewrite, or retire
A Next.js build on your brand
Page by page in Next.js, the framework the fastest sites run on. Your brand, no marketplace theme.
- Designed around your brand, not a template
- Mobile-first layouts and accessible markup
- A content model your team can keep current
Rankings carried across
Old URLs are mapped to new ones with permanent 301s, checked before the domain switches over.
- A checked 301 redirect map
- Titles, canonicals and schema moved deliberately
- Analytics live before the domain switches over
We keep running it
A site drifts the moment it ships. We stay on it rather than handing over a login.
- Core Web Vitals watched, not assumed
- Page and content changes handled as needed
- Broken forms and dead links caught early
Why move off WordPress, Wix or Squarespace?
Nothing is wrong with those platforms on day one. The problem is what they become. A WordPress site picks up a page builder, then a slider, then a form plugin, then a caching plugin to compensate for the first three. Most of that weight is downloaded before your visitor sees anything.
On a hosted builder you cannot strip that weight out, because you do not control the output. Next.js sends the page as HTML first, so your content appears while the rest loads. It also means the words are in the markup, which is what crawlers and AI answer engines read. More on that in AI search optimization.
Will I lose the rankings I already have?
That is the risk in any migration, and it is planned first rather than last. Pages that bring traffic keep their content, titles and meaning. Where a URL has to change, a permanent 301 sends the old address to its closest match, and the map is checked before launch rather than in a traffic report a month later. We cannot promise how a search engine will behave. What we can control is that nothing you have earned points at a dead page on the day you switch.
How long does it take?
Weeks, not quarters. The timeline follows your page count and how much content needs rewriting rather than lifting. A tight brochure site moves quickly. One carrying hundreds of legacy posts, a members area or a shop takes longer, and we tell you that before you commit. Our process page sets out how an engagement runs week to week.
What do you need from my team?
Less than you would expect, and mostly decisions rather than work. Someone who can approve copy and design without a committee, someone who knows which pages the business actually depends on, and a few hours to react to what has been built rather than a standing commitment. We handle the content migration. Send brand guidelines, a logo file and photography you own. If you do not have them, we work with what exists.
How is this different from hiring an agency?
Two differences. We do not disappear at launch. A typical agency build ends the day the site goes live, which is exactly when it starts to drift: content goes stale, forms stop delivering, pages slow down. We keep running it. The second is scope. A website is rarely the only leak, and once we are inside your operation we can see the calls going to voicemail and the AI answers naming a competitor. The rest is on the services page, and what it costs is on pricing.
The concrete deliverables.
- An inventory of your current pages, forms and URLs
- A Next.js rebuild on your own brand, not a template
- A checked 301 redirect map so rankings carry across
- Core Web Vitals, schema and analytics built in
- A content model your team can keep current
- Ongoing operation after launch, not a handover
Which industries is this for?
It matters most where the site is the first thing a stranger judges you on. That is all four industries we work in, but it bites hardest in manufacturing and food and beverage, where a buyer reads your capability and certification pages before enquiring. Logistics is the same snap judgement, made by a shipper. Healthcare adds accessibility and a phone in a waiting room.
Manufacturing
Buyers read your capability pages before an RFQ. A dated site reads as a dated shop floor.
Food & Beverage
Certification and food safety pages are what give a retail buyer the confidence to reach out, so they must be current.
Logistics
Shippers judge your site before they ever call about lanes or capacity.
Healthcare
The site has to work on a phone in a waiting room and hold your local search presence.
Website modernization FAQ.
What is website modernization?
A full rebuild of a dated site as a fast Next.js application, with content, structure and search rankings carried across rather than started again. It covers inventory, rebuild, redirect mapping and running the site after launch.
Will I lose my search rankings when the site is rebuilt?
Protecting rankings is planned first. Pages that earn traffic keep their content and meaning, every changed URL gets a permanent 301 to its closest match, and the map is checked before the domain switches over.
Why Next.js instead of staying on WordPress?
A WordPress site accumulates weight: a page builder, a slider, a form plugin, then caching to compensate for the first three. Most of that weight is downloaded before a visitor sees anything. Next.js sends HTML first, so content appears while the rest loads.
How long does a website modernization project take?
Weeks, not quarters. The timeline follows page count and how much content needs rewriting rather than lifting. A tight brochure site moves quickly. One carrying hundreds of legacy posts or a shop takes longer, and we say so first.
Can my team still edit the site afterwards?
Yes. The rebuild includes a content model your team can keep current, so the pages you change often stay in your hands. Structural changes come back to us, which is part of running the site.
Send us the URL. We'll tell you what is holding it back.
Book a call and we will walk your current site with you, or take the assessment to see where it sits against the rest of your operation.
What is website modernization?
Website modernization is a full rebuild of a dated website as a fast Next.js application, with content, structure and existing search rankings carried across rather than started again. Smarter Revolution delivers it for mid-market companies running slow WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or GoDaddy sites, and keeps operating the site after launch.
Website modernization is the service Smarter Revolution uses to move a mid-market company off a dated website and onto a fast Next.js build. The work runs in four stages. First an inventory: every page, form and URL is listed, and the pages that genuinely bring traffic and enquiries are identified. Second the rebuild, page by page in Next.js on the client's own brand rather than a purchased theme, with a content model the client's team can edit. Third the migration, where changed URLs receive permanent 301 redirects to their closest match and the redirect map is checked before the domain switches over, so existing rankings are carried across rather than lost. Fourth, Smarter Revolution keeps operating the site after launch instead of handing over a login. Projects reach production in weeks rather than quarters, and the service is applied across manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, and food and beverage.
